1-5 hour workshop, Your Preferred Media, 10am-3pm
A One day Plein Air Workshop in one of most beautiful areas in the country, right here in our own neck of the woods at Nesett Farm. Why travel hundreds of even thousands of miles away when you can experience a painting adventure like this so close to home. Trish Harding will take you through the process of making a successful plein air painting, encouraging students to see as an artist. Plein air painting not only is a process of observation where we break things down into simple forms and arrange them into a strong composition it is also a time when we experience our surroundings more intensely and remember it longer and with greater clarity. Trish has facilitated and instructed countless plein air painting workshops through Trish Harding School of Art at Studio UFO as well as Whatcom Community College and other organizations. She would love to pass on her wisdom and inspiration to you. We will begin with an understanding of what brought us here and what we want to accomplish then a demonstration on drawing and beginning a painting by blocking in simple shapes. Working from that point you will consider composition, value, color and mood and work independently on our paintings. Trish will be available for easel-side help and input and we will hold a lively critique at the end of the day. If you have been thinking of plein air painting but just have never quite gotten to it, this workshop is for you! Skill levels from beginner to professional artist are welcome and all media and disciplines from realism to abstract are encouraged.
Bring: Paints, brushes, water/solvent, containers, palette, paper towels, canvas/paper, easel, lawn chair, lunch/drinking water, warm clothes/layers, hat, camera, etc…Map to Nesett Farm will be posted soon.

WE ARE PAINTING
DOWNTOWN BELLINGHAM
EN PLEIN AIR!
En Plein Air means “Out in the open air”, like the Impressionists painted! Over 50 regional artists are participating in The “2nd Annual Downtown Bellingham Plein Air Paint Out” (PAPO), sponsored by Studio UFO Gallery, and Blue Horse Gallery, both located at 301 W Holly St. in the Bay Street Village Bldg.
Bellingham affords us all the elements of a city on the cusp of great change. From breathtaking water views, to parks inhabited by enormous fir and deciduous trees to interesting urban landscapes always bustling with many Bellinghamsters amidst old historic to modern buildings and landmarks. Gentrification of Bellingham means higher property values and it will become harder for artists to remain sustainable in the downtown core, therefore we want to make our presence known and show how much we contribute to the quality and the richness of the downtown.
This plein air paint out culminates in a huge art show at Studio UFO Gallery and Bluehorse Gallery. The public is invited to an Artist Reception on Friday Nov 16 from 7-10pm. All paintings will be for sale and the show will run through Nov 30.Trish Harding at 360-319-6115 or email her at trish.harding@studioufo.net.
