PAPO 2007 Call to Artists

Published by Trish under Call to Artists

Open Letter to artists that participated in the 2nd Annual Downtown Bellingham Plein Air Paint Out: On behalf of Wade Marlow at Blue Horse Gallery and myself, Trish Harding from Studio UFO I want to take the time to thank each and every one of you for being a part of the 2007 PAPO.  There were over 50 artists this year interpreting Downtown Bellingham and we were thrilled with the turnout.  We cannot wait until we get to hang our show.We accomplished our mission in that we raised public awareness about the artist space issue during the gentrification process of any Northwest City.  We were written up in the Cascadia Weekly by Amy Kepferle and were also mentioned in the Business Monthly.  We were then contacted by Mayor candidate Dan Pike to meet and hear our concerns about studio space availability in the downtown core.  That event was Friday and I think we made our point loud and clear.  As for the show!  You can deliver your paintings to Studio UFO ready to hang on Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov 13th & 14th between the hours of 10-3.  If you need to make special arrangements please call or email me.Remember…stretched canvas paintings need not be framed if they have painted edges.  All work that is matted needs to be framed and all work must have a wire hanger that hangs at 2 ½ inches exactly from the top of the frame or canvas. No sw toothed hangers, please.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  This is a professional show so please present your work professionally. ·         Art ready to hang·         Tag with artist, title, framed size & price lower right back·         Bio  & photo of artist (one paragraph)·         Resume·         All artwork must be for sale·         Gallery will take 40% of sales The artist reception is Friday November 16, 7-9:30pm.  The show will be advertised and an award will be given for People’s Choice.  Last year’s People’s Choice went to Susann Rossberg for her acrylic on board, Street to the Bay.  Who will it be this year. Also, I wanted to mention that we had several artists from out of town and as far away as Oregon and we really are excited about that.  If you have to ship your piece please send to Studio UFO 301 W Holly St. Bellingham, WA 98225.  Any art that is not received by Wed the 14th will not be able to be hung.  Give return shipping instructions for shipping charges.  Your piece will be returned in box it is shipped in.  There is a $10 packaging fee in addition to shipping costs.Pick up for all art is Tues & Wed Dec 4th & 5th.  WE CANNOT STORE YOUR ARTWORK.  Please start planning for next year.  Our goal is 100 artists on the streets of Bellingham.  Help us make that goal by recruiting your fellow artists for the 3rd Annual Downtown Bellingham Plein Air Paint Out in 2008.  We will set a date shortly after the new year.  I will email all of this years artists but it will also be posted on my website www.studioufo.net.

Again, sincere thanks for your help in this important issue for Bellingham and all other communities undergoing gentrification.

This show is open to only artists who entered and painted in the paint out.

 PeaceTrish

Downtown Gallery Walk, Oct

Published by Trish under upcoming shows

Join us on Friday October 5th, 7-10pm for the Downtown Gallery Walk at Studio UFO.  You will get a preview of Trish’s new triptychs (2) in progress!  The 6 panels, 36″x48″ each is a view of downtown Bellingham stitched together.  Three panels depict the water side of our city and the other 3 depict the mountain side of the city.  The paintings will be completed for my show at Allied Arts in December.

You will also see a collection of work from the Trish Harding School of Art at Studio UFO oil painting class and watermedia painting class!  I was going to show a collection of my work only this gallery walk but the work the UFO Group was doing was so exciting that I wanted to show it as well.

We used poetry for one project as an impetus for our imagery.  These paintings are not to be narrative nor illustrative, but rather a painting with imagery that is personal to the artist and representative of his/her life experience and personal esthetic.

Our second project helped us take another fork in the road with our art.  Using images of dogs, we were able to explore using a grid system not unlike Chuck Close to focus on macro images within the whole which allowed us to concentrate on value shapes as well as intensity and temperature contrasts.  Don’t miss this opportunity to see what the UFO Group is up to now.

Art Space Round Table

Published by Trish under Classes & Workshops

ART SPACE ROUND TABLEMEETING WITH DAN PIKE

Candidate for Mayor

Studio UFO

301 W Holly Street

Friday September 21, 3:45pm

DAN PIKE CONTACTED ME AND WANTS TO HEAR WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY after reading the PAPO article in the Cascadia Weekly, by Amy Kepferle.

To express our concerns about affordable, sustainable studio space in downtown Bellingham during the gentrification.  We want to keep organic, sustainable, art based small business alive and thriving in the downtown core.

The public is welcome to come and voice opinions or to hear his.  This is a huge concern and the time is appropriate.  IMAGINE OUR CITY WITHOUT A LOCAL ARTIST COMMUNITY!  MANY OTHER CITIES HAVE PRICED LOCAL ARTISTS OUT OF THE DOWNTOWN CORE.

Please email me if you plan to come so I can guesstimate the number of people.
