Watercolor Workshop, HOW TO SET UP AND ORGANIZE A WATERCOLOR PALETTE and put it to use.One day, Friday January 11, 10am-3pm, $40 +$5 for color wheel

In The morning, using the Quiller Color Wheel, the Quiller Palette and your tubes of watercolors (I recommend Daniel Smith if you are buying new) we will start at the beginning setting up a logical color system for you to paint from and from which intelligent choices about color and mixing can be made.  This is a great class for the beginner as well as the seasoned artist who wants to reorganize his/her palette.

In the afternoon we will put the color system to work and produce a few studies that will help your new palette make total sense.  So don’t struggle with an unorganized painting set up any longer!  Give yourself the set up necessary to use your skills to paint freely and intuitively instead of stumbling along, searching for colors, picking the wrong colors and basically spinning your wheels.  This is the secret to clear crisp, transparent color, and expressive, exciting watercolors.

Bring:

  • Quiller Brand full size Palette: Purchase at Dakota Art

  • tubes of watercolor paints that you already have or Professional quality i.e. Daniel Smith (www.danielsmith.com ) or Winsor Newton (Dakota Art).  See color list below.
  • Brushes:  One 1 inch flat good watercolor brush, purchase at Dakota Art
  • Paper:  One sheet Arches 140lb cold press cut in quarters, purchase at Dakota Art. Please bring this paper and not paper blocks of other inferior paper.
  • Light weight board.  To stretch your paper on.  It should be larger than a quarter sheet of paper.

Color List (if purchasing new watercolors.  Buy your colors in plenty of time to receive them if buying from Daniel Smith online.)

Required colors unless you have a color that is it’s replacement, for example burnt umber can be substituted for Quinacridone burnt orange or Winsor blue can be substituted for Phthalo blue.

  • Phthalo blue, Ultramarine blue, Cobalt blue, Cadmium red, Alizarin crimson, Cadmium yellow, Aureolin yellow, Yellow Ochre, Burnt umber or Quinacridone burnt orange, Sienna, Phthalo green, Perrinone orange.

I will suggest other colors at class to fill in your palette, but if you have tubes of other colors, bring them and I will help you place those as well.
