The purpose of this paint out is to promote public awareness and appreciation of Plein Air Painting and Art in general in Bellingham.  Our goal is to have 100 artists painting along or near the Holly Street corridor.  The sponsors will promote the event to the public.  The Second Annual Exhibition Opening and Artists’ Reception, November 16 through November 30.  This is not a fundraiser.  Artists will get 60% of sales.

 PEOPLES’ CHOICE AWARD! Eligibility

• Artist must be 18 years or older and a resident of the Pacific NW.
• Entries must be original, entirely the work of the entrant, executed the day of the paint out.
• Entries must be original paintings, no photocopies or Xerox, giclee or other reproduction.
• Entries must reflect the uniqueness of Downtown Bellingham and 75% completed en plein air.
• One painting per artist will be included in an exhibition.
• The Exhibition will be hosted by The Trish Harding School of Art at Studio UFO Gallery and Blue Horse Gallery at Bay Street Village Building.

 Conditions

• Minimum size is 10”.
• All work on paper must use glass or Plexiglas.
• Work must be sturdily framed and ready to hang, including wire.  No saw tooth hangers.

·         Studio UFO Gallery and Blue Horse Gallery reserve the right to refuse any work, which does not meet the criteria or is not suitable for the gallery mission.

·         All artists are encouraged to attend the exhibition and encouraged to invite family, friends & clients.

 Entry Fees

 Sales

• All work must be for sale.
• The Gallery will charge 40% commission for each artwork sold.

Location

• Artists will report to a central location (Studio UFO) for registration, nametags and instructions and from there the paint out will begin.

• There will be designated areas of the city that the artist can choose to paint.  Locations will be decided upon with respect to facilities and water availability.
• Artists are asked not to use business establishment’s restrooms unless you do business with them.

 Photography

·         The Gallery reserves the right to photograph entries and artists in action and use photographs for the purposes of documentation, education, and publicity and to encourage interaction of the arts.

PAPO 2008 Call to Artists-SAVE THE DATE

3^rd Annual Downtown Bellingham Plein Air Paint Out & Exhibit.  This event is to raise public awareness about sustainable studio space for artists in the region, specifically downtown Bellingham, therefore we will be asking the plein air artists to set up easels around or near the Holly St corridor.  Because “Gentrification” is happening in all the art towns of the Northwest none are except from the problems facing their organic artists. We are making history!

We are painting Downtown Bellingham!  Join artists from all over the area for the “3^rd Annual Downtown Bellingham Plein Air Paint Out”, sponsored by Studio UFO Gallery, and Blue Horse Gallery, both located at 301 W Holly St. in the Bay Street Village Bldg.  Bellingham affords us all the elements of a city on the cusp of great change.  From breathtaking water views, to parks inhabited by enormous fir and deciduous trees to interesting urban landscapes always bustling with many Bellinghamsters amidst old historic to modern buildings and landmarks.  Gentrification of Bellingham means higher property values and it will become harder for artists to remain sustainable in the downtown core, therefore we want to make our presence known and show how much we contribute to the quality and the richness of the downtown.  This plein air painting date is Saturday August 23, 2008 10am-3pm.    It all culminates in a huge art show at Bluehorse Gallery with an Artists Reception on Friday Nov 14 and runs through Nov 30.  Last year we had over 57 artists on the streets of Bellingham on one day and we are hoping for 100 this year!  Please save the date now and join us in August!  For your prospectus please email her at trish.harding@studioufo.net or download prospectus & entry form at www.studioufo.net.

The purpose of this exhibition is to inspire artists to stretch and produce work that is provocative and startling using the nude as inspiration.  This is a loose criterion, which could result in full nudity, partial nudity, implied nudity or abstracted nudity.  This is an opportunity for each artist to paint and show the most exciting, outrageous piece that he or she has always wanted to paint.  Keeping in that spirit, artwork will be judged by the following point system, 70 points possible.

 a.      1-10 points for translation of the theme…”Nudes on Parade”b.      1-10 points for interpretation of the figurec.       1-10 points for use of colord.      1-10 points for presentatione.       1-10 points for professionalismf.        1-10 points for technique explorationg.      1-10 points for energy/dynamic Eligibility

• Minimum framed size is 16” in any direction.
• Maximum framed size is 4’ in any direction
• Work must be sturdily framed and ready to hang, including wire that hangs 2 ½ “ from the top of frame.  No saw tooth hangers or glass/clips. NO EXCEPTIONS

·         Studio UFO Gallery, Blue Horse Gallery and Magic Draw reserve the right to refuse any work that does not meet the criteria or is not suitable for the exhibition mission.

·         All artists are expected to attend the artist’s reception and invite family, friends & clients.

Entry Fees

• Non-refundable entry fee of $25 is payable by check only to Trish Harding.
• Up to two paintings can be entered for the $25 fee.
• Entries will be juried from your digital image on a CD.  Please label with Number, Name, Title, Medium, Size and Price (in that order).
• CD’s will not be returned.
• An entry form must accompany the CD, Entry Fee, and Numbered Image List.
• The entry must be postmarked or hand delivered no later than Dec 31, 2007.
• Entries received after the deadline Dec 31, 2007 pay $50 and absolutely no entries will be accepted after Jan 15, midnight.

Shipping

•  If you have to ship your piece please send to Studio UFO 301 W Holly St. Bellingham, WA 98225.
• Any art that is not received by Tuesday, 12^th will not be able to be hung.
• Send return shipping instructions for shipping charges, i.e. credit card number/expire date.
• Your piece will be returned in box it is shipped in.
• There is a $15 handling fee in addition to shipping costs.

Sales

• ALL ARTWORK MUST BE FOR SALE.
• Title of artwork, Name of artist, Medium, Image size and Price should be clearly marked on lower right back of piece.
• The commission will be 40% for each artwork sold.
• Checks for sold artwork will be mailed two weeks after the last day of the show.

Photography

·         The Gallery reserves the right to photograph entries and artists to use photographs for the purposes of documentation, publicity and encouragement of interaction in the arts.

Sat March 29th at appox 11:00 the NPS general meeting will be taking place at Dakota Art in Mt. Vernon.  This will be the first meeting that I will be presiding over as the new president of the Northwest Pastel Society.  Since it is so close to Bellingham, I urge all Bellingham pastelists to save the date and plan to come to this meeting.  Whether you are alrady a member or have been thinking about joining this will be a great time to commit some time and energy to check out the organization and see what it has to offer you and your career as a pastelist.  You will meet important artists, find out about paint outs, events and shows, art travels, and much more.  Participate, engage and network!  What a great resource for every artist!   Also, Robyn at Dakota Art Patels welcomes NPS with a 10% discount to NPS members Sat., March 29th only.
