Well, 14 of us are off to San Miguel De’Allende, Mexico tomorrow and will return on Nov 5th.   We will be doing a journaling class, plein air, interior light and sketching classes.  We will be showing the work in Oct 2009 at the Blue Horse Gallery.

I think about my beautiful Ryan  every minute and totally understand how incredibly lucky I was to have had the pleasure and honor of being his mom.  I miss him with every fiber of my being.  Hoping warm Mexican sun will be healing for both Tom & me, and wishing our beautiful Molly healing as well.

HAT TRICK FEATURED AT UFO GALLERY 

BELLINGHAM - The work of local Bellingham artists Marilyn Olsen and Pat Burman will be featured at the UFO Gallery, Friday October 10, 2008 from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. during the downtown Gallery Walk. 

            Hat Trick, the hockey term for three goals in a row in a game, was chosen as the title for the exhibit, since the hats presented have been rendered in three media: yarn, clay and paint.

Olsen, a long-time knitter and ceramic artist has created more than a dozen hats ranging from the sequined knitted fruit of a towering Carmen Miranda hat, to the coronation crown of Queen Elizabeth to a hat covered entirely in knitted sea creatures, to a Samurai warrior’s hat, complete with a glittering dragon on top. 

            Each of the hats is exactly duplicated in clay by Olsen and accompanied by a bright acrylic painting of the hat by Pat Burman. 

            Olsen and Burman, next door neighbors, have spent most of the spring and summer creating the hats, some from their own imagination, others from historical sources and yet others inspired by unusual Internet research.

            “You would be amazed how many people actually knit fruit,” said Olsen.  “Or, for that matter, also knit lobsters and jellyfish.” 

            Other additions to the hats have come from hardware stores (the Akha Thai Hilltribe hat features sliver washers from Lowes) stuff stored in the attic (like sparkly Christmas tree ornaments) and gemstones of amazing size and beauty on the coronation crown straight from Michael’s.

All hats will be for sale at the exhibit and all proceeds will benefit the Hospice House capital campaign.

Ryan would have loved his life’s celebration!  Thank you for coming and letting us share, in our own way, the remarkable, short and intense life of our son and brother and husband Ryan Alan Murray Triplett.  He loved this world.
