Altitude Artists Reception at Blue Horse Gallery Friday Sept. 4th

 ryan-climbing.jpg

Well, Altitude is coming up already the first Friday of September!  Please come to my show that is inspired by my son Ryan.  I am hoping to see all your cute little faces there.  We will have some music by the incomparable Tom Harding (he hates it when I make a big deal about his music) and the audience will be asked to sing some of the chorus’s.  Many of you have done this with us (Big Strong Man) and know how much fun it is.  We are also going to have a poetry reading at approximately 7pm by our own Bellingham poet, Jim Bertolino and he is great!  He will be reading Ode to Ryan by my cousin John C. Murray, a poet from Boston.  So don’t miss my reception and I will be forever grateful to you for showing up and singing and seeing and remembering with me.

First day of PAPO!

Published by Trish under Other Stuff, Community Events

It was a great day for PAPO 09!  The weather was perfect.  Not too hot or too cold, albeit a little windy later in the day.  We had artists on Holly St, Railroad, Chestnut, in the alleys and over as far as the Theater Guild.  We have one more day tomorrow.  I saw many, many strong paintings and Wade will consider two if you get two done for the show in November!  Thanks to all of you that came out today to spread our concerns about sustainable studio & gallery space in Bellingham.  AND, I will see you again tomorrow!

Buy Local, Original, Organic Art!

Peace,

Trish

4th Annual 2009 PAPO

Thank you for painting with us this year for the 4th Annual Downtown Bellingham Plein Air Paint Out! There will be no meeting this year before the paint out.  Just find your spot and paint.  I will be coming around to find everyone and take pictures and greet you and see if you need anything.  Have a great day or two of painting.

Here are some tips about painting outside:

  • Please set up your painting station anywhere along the Holly Street Corridor.  Some artists like to be right downtown and others stray as far as Maritime Heritage Park, the Depot Market, Museum and County Courthouse.  Remember the purpose of the paint out is to show the community how many active artists live and work in the region and how important artists are to the quality and character of Bellingham.  Many cities are taking direction from us here in Bellingham with their own paint outs such as Seattle, Snoqualmie and others.
  • Do not use business restaurant’s restrooms without purchasing an item from them or clearing restroom use with them first.
  • Do not block entrance to any businesses
  • Bring plenty of water to drink
  • Bring a lunch
  • Buddy up so that another artist can watch your station if you need to leave it for a short time
  • Do not get a parking ticket, pay the meter
  • If a passer by annoys you tell then you are busy and you would like to not be disturbed.  This usually takes care of annoying people.
  • My cell phone number is 319-6115 for any emergencies
  • Print the following sign and tape it to your easel to inform passers by about what we are doing
  • Be sure to enter 1 or 2 pieces into the Blue Horse Gallery portion of this event…entries are due Oct 30th 31st.  See prospectus for other calendar dates.

PAPO 2009                                     Call to Artists

4th  Annual Downtown Bellingham Plein Air Paint Out & Exhibit

This event is to raise public awareness about sustainable studio space for artists in the region, specifically downtown Bellingham, therefore we will be asking the plein air artists to set up easels around or near the Holly St corridor.  Because “Gentrification” is happening in all the art towns of the Northwest none are exempt from the problems facing their organic artists. We are making history!

PAPO 09 will be promoted on BTV10, Bellingham’s own television channel.  Watch for that soon!.

We are painting Downtown Bellingham!  Join artists from all over the area for the “4th  Annual Downtown Bellingham Plein Air Paint Out”, sponsored by Studio UFO, Blue Horse Gallery and the City of Bellingham...  Last year we had over 70 artists on the streets of Bellingham on one weekend and we are hoping for 100 this year!   Please save the date now and join us in August!  Bellingham affords us all the elements of a city on the cusp of great change.  From breathtaking water views, to parks inhabited by enormous fir and deciduous trees to interesting urban landscapes always bustling with many Bellinghamsters amidst old historic to modern buildings and landmarks.  Gentrification of Bellingham means higher property values which could mean that it will become harder for artists to remain sustainable in the downtown core, therefore we want to make our presence known and show how much we contribute to the quality and the richness of the downtown.

This plein air painting date is Saturday and Sunday August 22 & 23, 2009 10am-3pm.  It all culminates in a huge art show at Blue Horse Gallery with an Artists Reception on Friday Nov 6th and runs through Nov 30.  The art exhibit is well advertised and a spectacular community effort.   For your prospectus and entry form please email Trish Harding at trish.harding@studioufo.net , download prospectus & entry form at www.studioufo.net.

2009 Menucha Workshop

Published by Trish under Classes & Workshops

What could be better than painting en plein air at the Creative Arts Community weeklong in residence workshop?  Just that fact that we were painting right on the Columbia River Gorge next to the fabulous swimming pool which we dove into after class was over.  Here we are having a critique just before that big swim.

Also, no menu, grocery shopping, laundry, etc…Just artwork all week long.

Plan for next year, the first two weeks of August.

Peace,

Trish
